Hurling tomatoes at complete strangers sounds like fun? Get yourself to La Tomatina in Valencia! This annual festival is all about getting messy, having a laugh and making the streets squeaky clean! (The natural acidity of the tomatoes cleanses the streets).

It’s true! Take a trip to Tennessee and see the amazing resident ducks—whose daily parade to the hall’s fountain is a tradition dating back to 1933.

If you’ve seen the new Jungle Book movie, the scene with all the monkeys gorging on fruit perfectly encapsulates this tradition! Garlands of fresh produce are fanned across the streets for the monkeys to tuck into!

Let’s go right back to 1267, where the townsfolk of Egremont were ‘treated’ to a crab apple every year from the Lord of the Manor. Fast forward to the present day, and the Egremot Crab Fair has evolved to focus on, you’ve guessed it, gurning. Contenders must put their head through a horse collar before snarling ‘like a dog’ while looking as ‘savage’ as possible. Sounds like a laugh, right?

Head to Bognor Regis and Worthing on the south coast for the spectacular International Birdman Competition. Cheer on the ‘birdmen’ as they fling themselves off a pier into the sea, all in the hope that they’ll win the coveted prize money. Whether you’re a flying enthusiast or just want an excuse to dress up in a silly costume, the event is well worth attending.
