There’s been over 100 years of celebration of International Women’s Day and 2019 is no different.

People around the globe are now celebrating the achievements of women and campaigning to make a positive difference for women everywhere.

This year the campaign theme is #BalanceforBetter – focusing on gender balance in all areas of our lives, from the workplace to the government or even representation in the media.

To celebrate this important day, we met with a few women from around the Malvern Group, both Super Break and LateRooms to find out who the ladies are that inspire them to be their best selves.

Within the business I am inspired by Kirsten Machray, Product Propositions Manager whose business knowledge is always a source of help to myself and my team. Kirsten is always calm under pressure, provides considered and constructive feedback and most importantly she is great fun!

Dawn Cook – Marketing Manager

Tell us what you do here at Malvern Group & how long you’ve worked here?

Hi, I’m Dawn Cook the Marketing Manager for the Malvern Group. I originally joined the business in April 2017 as Marketing Communications Manager for Super Break. Now I work across all brands within the Malvern Group, developing and delivering marketing plans in line with the overarching business strategy. My role involves managing the CRM (email), Brochure and Direct Mail channels with the aim of attracting and retaining customers. I’m also largely responsible for Branding – driving brand perception, protecting the brand (yes, everyone refers to me as the ‘brand police’) and growing awareness.

What is your favourite thing about working here?

The autonomy and variety of the role – no day is ever the same and it’s NEVER boring! My role allows me to simultaneously work across multiple brands and various marketing channels. A typical day could include redecorating a hotel suite as the Grinch’s Grotto to negotiating paper costs for the Super Break Brochures and even sourcing branded gifts for corporate events.

Such a cliché but it *has* to be my wonderful Mum! As a child she attended an all-girls school and as such taught me the importance of ‘girl code’ – always supporting each other, praising one another, encouraging body positivity and self-belief and finally the importance of ladies sticking together – sisters before misters! In later life, my Mum has faced numerous health issues and she doesn’t let anything stand in her way. She’s such a tough cookie and her positivity and tenacity inspires me every single day.

I think it’s also important to shout out the fabulous ladies of Malvern. Having previously worked in very male-dominated industries, it’s great to see so many women achieving their goals and inspiring others!

I would say my female inspiration was my granny, she taught me everything I needed to know in life, raised me as a mother and gave me the best advise! She helped me be the independent woman I am today.
