UK in 48 Hours: The Northern Route

We have composed a 48 hour trip plan of the must see sights in some of the UK’s best northern cities. Try out this 258.6 mile challenge for an action packed trip to get you out and exploring what Britain has to offer.

Liverpool

9.00am – Arrive in Liverpool – Here is the perfect opportunity to get your bearings and take in the sights and sounds of Liverpool! Take a stroll through the bustling city centre or consult a map and check out where all the landmarks are.

9.30amVisit The Beatles Story – Learn more about the Famous Four at this fab attraction. From their pop classics to their psychedelic hits, take a trip down memory lane with the music that defined generations.

11.30am – Admire the artwork at Tate Liverpool and feel inspired! Whether you’re into Impressionism or Cubism, there’s sure to be an era of interest for you. What’s more, the attraction is free!

1.00pmHave lunch at the Vinea restaurant – Tuck into tasty tapas dishes and a cool glass of wine at this trendy dockside hotspot. The restaurant also has its own deli to tempt you…

3.00pm – Leave Liverpool and head to Manchester (average maximum time for train journey 1 hour 35 mins). Be sure to take some pictures before you set off!

5.15pmArrive at Manchester Oxford Road station – Ready for the next part of your adventure? Once you’ve found your way into the city centre, make your way towards the hotel and refresh.

5.45pmCheck in at the Renaissance Manchester hotel – This luxury 4* hotel is an ideal choice of accommodation for a relaxing break in the centre of the city.

6.15pmHead to Giorgio Italian restaurant for the pre theatre dinner menu – This great value menu includes delicious pizzas, pastas and risottos, as well as a tempting array of Italian starters.

7.20pm – Watch a show at the Palace Theatre. (running time: 2 hours and 20 mins – prompt 7.30 start)

8.00am – Enjoy breakfast in the hotel – be sure to fill up as you have a busy day ahead!

9.00am – Leave Manchester and head to York (journey is roughly 1 hour 25 minutes).

10:30amArrive in York – Walk through the historic city centre and admire the sights or, if you’re feeling brave, walk the walls from the station and see the city from above!

11:00amVisit York’s Chocolate Story – Enjoy a guided tour of this popular attraction and learn more about York’s sweet success through confectionery.

12:15pmGo for lunch at Shambles Kitchen – Tuck into a tempting array of street food, all made fresh on the premises, then wash it down with a refreshing fresh fruit smoothie. What’s more, you can shop along The Shambles once you’re full!

1:15pm – Leave York to head to Edinburgh (Journey is roughly 2 hours 30 minutes).

3.45pmArrive in Edinburgh – walk through the historic streets and marvel at the city’s intricate architecture.

4.00pmVisit Edinburgh Castle – look out over miles of scenery from the heights of Edinburgh Castle. Be sure to take a few photos too – the views are breathtaking!

6.00pmCheck in at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian hotel – Refresh in your expertly designed room before heading out for a night on the town.

6.30pm – Head out for dinner at Angels with Bagpipes – All of the dishes at this top restaurant are produced with fresh, seasonal ingredients, making for a memorable meal out.

7.30pm – Head to one of Edinburgh’s popular bars and see a traditional folk band! Alternatively, The Stand Comedy Club is a great place to meet with friends for a few laughs.
