The annual Christmas switch-on is one of those key traditions that lets you know it’s nearly here. Whether you visit a new city for its display or you stay at home and enjoy your local lights, the festive atmosphere can’t help but draw you in. This year make sure you get yourself out and about and enjoy all of the great events that are taking place throughout the UK. It’s not just lights you know!

Witness the capital at its most dazzling this winter as each and every street from Covent Garden to Drury Lane decks itself out with sparkling displays for the London Christmas Lights 2013. Undoubtedly, there’ll be a whole host of celebrities and special guests with their hands on those big red buttons from the 6th November when the first lights appear. There’ll also be a great selection of live music, festive stalls and fantastic shopping throughout London for you to enjoy.

Manchester

From November 7th, Manchester will be aglow with all things Christmas. An amazing firework display kicks off Manchester’s Christmas celebrations along with not-to-be-missed special guest performances, including The Wanted and X factor’s Misha B! Enjoy a great night out for every age with loads of exciting events happening across the city centre.

York

One of the most beautiful cities to visit at Christmas time (even if we do say so ourselves!) is York, and this year you can enjoy this winter wonderland from November 5th. With fabulous lights, a Santa’s Grotto and an abundance of festive foodie stalls, you’ll be lost in the Christmas spirit of this historical destination. There’ll be a great range of activities for the kids as well as traditional carol services at The Holy Trinity Church.

Leeds

Hosted by the fabulous people at Real Radio, Leeds Christmas lights switch-on is always a wonder to behold. On the 7th November at 6.30pm, the city’s Victoria Square will become a hive of bustling activity and entertainment, with live music performers, special guest celebrities, local sporting heroes, pantomime characters and Santa’s Showtime. It’s a great event for the whole family, with some pretty spectacular lights to match.

This year you can experience Edinburgh’s 12 Days of Christmas lights display in all its glory. From November 22nd, George Street will light up to the sound of rock choirs, army bands and finally, an incredible firework display.
