With International Day of Happiness upon us, what better way to make yourself feel happier than to treat yourself to a UK short break! From the excitement of travelling to your chosen destination to enjoying new experiences while you’re there, the benefits of taking a break from the rat-race are there for all to see. Here are our top tips for things to do to make you happy while you’re on holiday in the good old British Isles!
Enjoy the weather
The health benefits of sunshine are well known so make a bee-line to the sunniest places in the UK. The seaside towns along the south coast of England are consistently ranked among the best places in the country for soaking up the sun. Head to Eastbourne, Bognor Regis, Worthing, Bournemouth and Brighton for warm sun and traditional English seaside fun!
Get out into the country
Breath in the pure countryside air, go on a long ramble, get closer to nature – all guaranteed to make you feel relaxed and put a smile on your face. The UK is blessed with incredible country walks from Snowdonia to the Lakes, the Peak District to the Yorkshire Dales so why not get out and about and explore the great British outdoors?
Catch up on your sleep
Forget about work, it’s time to relax – you don’t need to set an alarm, the only thing you need to wake up for is a delicious hotel breakfast! A long lie in makes us all feel happier so take it easy. Our Lazy Sunday breaks are a perfect way to relax and de-stress and with a late check-out included on each break you don’t need to worry about a lack of #MondayMotivation!
Forget penny pinching for now, indulge yourself, you’re on holiday! Why not book that spa treatment you’ve always promised yourself, treat yourself to a meal in a swanky restaurant or simply shop ‘til you drop. In the beautiful spa town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire you can do all three AND Harrogate is consistently voted near the top of “happiest places to live in the UK” polls so it’s the perfect feel-good place to visit!
Try something new
Going away on a short break is all about exploring new places and experiencing new adventures. We often ignore the things that are right on our doorstep so there’s plenty of new things to do around the UK. From something as simple as sampling unfamiliar or unusual cuisine (Haggis anyone?) to trying extreme sports or venturing off the beaten track, be more adventurous, it’s bound to leave you feeling exhilarated.
Do the things you love
Having said that, there’s something to be said for old favourites too. See an uplifting show, tour an interesting museum or art gallery, visit a zoo or safari park. If it’s what you like to do, go for it, you’re on your holidays!
Create happy memories
The best thing about going on holiday is you’ll remember it for the rest of your life. As well as having a great time while you’re on your break, every time you think back it’ll put a big smile on your face so make sure you enjoy yourself to the full and the memories will always keep you smiling.
