Sometimes all you need in life is a little quality time with the one you love, but choosing where to go and what to do can sometimes overshadow the spontaneous, romantic element of your short break away. We’ve consulted Cupid and read the romance books, and we’re armed with the most amorous activities and short break destinations for you and your other half.

It might be the little things they do like making you a cup of tea in the morning, popping your favourite chocolate bar in your work bag, or just being the greatest snuggle partner in the world, so why not treat them to a special break to show them just how much they mean to you.

1) The View From The Shard, London

Officially awarded the title of ‘The Most Romantic View’ in 2015, The View from The Shard in London is a perfect romantic treat for two. A champagne sunset is all yours as you look out over London’s twinkling city lights from 800ft, and it’s a wonderful place to pop the question, given that two couples were engaged within 10 minutes of the attraction opening. If you love one another to the moon and back, The View from The Shard might just be the cosy couple spot for you!

2) Hotel + Dinner Break: Beach Hill Hotel & Spa, Windermere, Cumbria

For complete peace and relaxation, nothing beats escaping with your sweetheart to the countryside for a couple of days, and this romantic 4* Dinner Deal in Windermere, Cumbria is a top choice for those looking for an idyllic love nest in The Lake District. With two night’s bed and breakfast and one night dinner all from only £119pp, you’ll both be able to relax and unwind without a care in the world – A blissful bubble for you and your starry-eyed SuperHero.

3) Dine at The Two Rivers Restaurant, The Deep, Hull

For an alternative romantic activity this year, why not snuggle up together with some sea creatures at The Deep, Hull? A wonderfully romantic marine setting, there are selected dates where you can dine in the Two Rivers Restaurant as turtles, sharks and stingrays swim past. The Mediterranean-Yorkshire fusion food provides an exclusive dining experience for all love birds when on a short break in Hull, with 2 nights bed and breakfast, one dinner and breakfast at the Mercure Hull Grange Park Hotel from just £81pp.

4) Afternoon Chocolate at the York Cocoa House, York

Also known as the food of love, chocolate is a great way to add some sweetness to any romantic short break, and York is a beautifully historic city which provides a beautiful backdrop for any love story. York Cocoa House offers a chocolatey catalogue of delicious sweet and savoury treats, but what really takes the (chocolate) biscuit is the special ‘Afternoon Chocolate’ – think afternoon tea cocoa style! What could be a more romantic way to spend a short break in York?

5) Shakespeare’s Houses, Stratford-upon-Avon

With its Shakespearean roots and poetic history, Stratford-upon-Avon is a twee little town which oozes romance. A romantic ramble along the River Avon followed by a cosy cuddle in front of a blazing fireplace (we recommend the Howard Arms, just a 20-minute drive from the centre of Stratford) – Warwickshire is a magical setting made for two. Don’t miss out on visiting the homes of the famous playwright with a trip to see Shakespeare’s Houses, including Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, Mary Arden’s Farm, Hall’s Croft and Harvard House.
