This week at SuperBreak HQ we’ve been talking about one of our favourite theme parks – LEGOLAND! Did you know that the resort is 20 years old this month? Having only gotten bigger, better and more popular over the past two decades, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort has firmly rooted itself in the young hearts of the nation.

Legoland-Windsor

The first ever LEGOLAND was opened in the brand’s home country of Denmark way back in 1968, with the UK version opening in March 1996 at the site of the old Windsor Safari Park. Since, following the success of the resort in Windsor, four more LEGOLAND parks have been opened around the world – in California, Germany, Florida and Malaysia.

When I was a boy back in the late 90’s, I remember visiting LEGOLAND Windsor for the first time for my 8th birthday. Now I’m not a huge fan of theme parks – and never have been – but I liked LEGOLAND because it’s not all about big rides and long lines. There’s something for everyone…

For example, at Pirate Falls – one of the park’s most popular areas – you can brave the rapids on the Pirate Falls Treasure Quest, or just take it easy sifting for gold nuggets at the Pirate Goldwash. Similarly, in the Knights Kingdom smaller children can tackle the somewhat tamer ‘Dragon’s Apprentice’ while the big kids brave the park’s twistiest, turniest ride: ‘The Dragon’.

My favourite area of LEGOLAND is Miniland. A simple pleasure perhaps, but seeing the world’s landmarks meticulously recreated in Lego (using around 40 million bricks!) is my idea of a good time. The driving school – also still there, all these years later – was also a firm favourite of mine.

Everyone loves Lego, and LEGOLAND Windsor Resort has worked hard to make the park inclusive and fun for everyone. It’s a common (and old-fashioned) misconception that Lego is just for boys –even the girliest girls can get on board with the Lego Friends in Heartlake City, a fairly recent addition to the park. Younger children can also get involved, with the resort’s DUPLO Valley catering for the little ones with special rides and play areas.

It’s a particularly good year to visit LEGOLAND with SuperBreak too. With a special offer rate, a family of four can play and stay nearby from just £150 – including all tickets and accommodation. Available on selected dates from now until the end of summer, this promotion is not to be missed!
