Half terms are always an exciting time for families. A whole week off allows plenty of time for planning fun days out and family half term breaks. And with half term falling close to Halloween this year, you’re sure to want to find something spooky to entertain the whole family. But coming up with these ideas is often the trickiest thing for parents, often resulting in last minute plans. So we’ve scoured the top attractions for Halloween-themed events going on over half term that the kids will love, and that won’t break the bank in the process.
Alton Towers Scarefest – 7th-31st October 2017
October Half term marks the start of ghostly celebrations and there ‘aint no Halloween quite like an Alton Towers Halloween. Their famous Scarefest has everything from spine chilling frights for the older ones and friendly ghosts and ghouls for the youngsters. With live Halloween shows, amazing costumed characters and brand new scare mazes, there’s much more on offer than your average trip to Alton Towers.
Thorpe Park Fright Nights – until 31st October 2017
Another big contender this October Half term is Thorpe Park. Their Fright Nights bring your favourite Hollywood horror movies to life including for the first time this year, The Walking Dead. With terrifying walk throughs and menacing, costumed characters, Fright Nights are not for the faint hearted (or the little ones)!
LEGOLAND Windsor Resort Brick or Treat – 14th-30th October 2017
Just when we thought kids couldn’t love Legoland anymore, they’ve only gone and added a Halloween-inspired fortnight of spooky activities! Dress the kids up in their best Halloween costumes and let them enjoy the many fun spook-tacular activities plus over 55 rides, live shows and attractions. They’ll also meet their favourite Lego characters! Best of all the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort fireworks show will celebrate the LEGO NINJAGO heroes with a stunning lights display! The unmissable Fireworks shows are held on 21/22 and 27/28 October!
Knights Away at Warwick Castle – 21st-31st October 2017
With the UK’s only Horrible Histories Maze and new attractions including the eerie Doll’s House, Warwick Castle is the place to be spooked this Halloween on a family half term break. There’s frightening fun in store for all ages; help the witches search for the secret of eternal youth, journey through the enchanted hollows meeting creepy characters at every turn or join in with fun, games and spooktacular shows at the Dead Centre Stage. See the spectacular Fire Joust as the twilight knights test their bravery, skill and agility or venture into the Castle Dungeon and witness some of the darkest times in the castle’s history.
Edinburgh Dungeon: Cannibals: Flesh Meat – 6th–31st October 2017
This Halloween meet the cannibal clan of Sawney Bean at the Edinburgh Dungeon. Sawney Bean and his blood -thirsty family live in a cave on the Scottish coast. It’s your job to assist the King’s Men in hunting down this murderous clan that have been kidnapping travellers and feasting on their bodies.
