Let’s face it, a rainy day in London isn’t a rare occurrence. Yet the best thing about the capital is that there’s so much to do, it really doesn’t matter what happens with the weather. It’s always a good idea to pack with grey skies in mind though, especially at this time of year! So, with your wellies and brolly in tow, what can you expect to get up to when the heavens open on your London short break? Here’s a few ideas…
Unleash your inner culture vulture
There are an unthinkable array of museums dotted throughout the city, offering up everything from fine art to royal memorabilia, dinosaurs to the weird and wonderful. Whether you fancy an in-depth look at times gone by in the world renowned Natural History Museum or a gander at some Egyptian artefacts in The British Museum, you’ll truly be spoilt for choice. If you’ve got the kids with you, pay a visit to Ripleys Believe it or Not – they’ll love the seven floors of crazy discoveries.
Indulge in some retail therapy
Even the guys will love a shop around in some of the biggest and best stores in the UK. Even if it’s just window shopping, a visit to Harrods and Selfridges is a must for any avid shopper, and if the bargain hunter in you is just dying to get out then hit the markets! Foodie lovers will adore Borough Market – an indoor heaven of rare meats, fresh produce, unique creations and a good old bit of bartering.
Grab your wand
Harry Potter lover or not, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is the ideal attraction to visit during your trip to the capital. Couples, families, OAPs and toddlers will adore looking behind the scenes of the hit movie series, showcasing everything from scenery to costumes and even a chance to meet the animal actors. Last year, TripAdvisor announced that the studio tour was the most reviewed UK attraction in 2013! So it’s definitely one to add to your To Do list.
Take a 3D adventure
If you want to spend a rainy day discovering amazing new things and witnessing science like you never thought you could, then a visit to the Science Museum IMAX 3D Cinema is definitely on the cards. With a screen taller than four double-decker buses this is the world’s most powerful movie experience. You’ll be transported deep into the action by diving in the ocean, taking a journey into space to the Hubble or flying in legendary aircraft. Sounds like a lot of fun doesn’t it!
Tour the city from the warmth of a big red bus
So it’s raining, that doesn’t mean that you have to stay indoors and miss out on everything that makes London so great. Hop on board a city sightseeing tour bus and you’ll be able to enjoy all of the famous sights from the warm indoors with a very knowledgeable tour guide to give you all the details. From Tower Bridge to Buckingham Palace, Big Ben to The London Eye, you’ll still get those brilliant pictures to make your friends jealous.
There you have it, a grey and rainy day in London does not mean a wasted journey. If anything it means you get the chance to visit places you may not have even considered!
