We LOVE short breaks here at SuperBreak. From the classic London theatre break to a weird and wonderful murder mystery weekend, we like to think we’ve got everything covered. One of our more alternative short break options is to hop aboard one of our Mini Cruises, which allow you to reach cities on the continent in style without the stresses of airports and flying. Our P&O Mini Cruises will whisk you off to the likes of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Bruges and now the beautiful Belgian coastal city of Ostend. But what is it like to actually go on one of these here Mini Cruises?
I’ve been lucky enough to have gone on two Mini Cruises with SuperBreak, one of which was last month. SuperBreak sent me and my fellow blogger Vikki on a mission to capture the Mini Cruise experience on camera! We went along on the SuperBreak Party Cruise from Hull to Amsterdam which includes lots of exciting extras such as live tribute acts and a SuperBreak party in Amsterdam. We’re very proud of the video we’ve created as we think it captures the experience as well as shows you what some of our lovely customers think too!
As well as the videos, I thought it would be good to answer a few common questions that people ask us about the Mini Cruises to give you an idea of the full experience.
What is the difference between a Party Cruise and a standard Mini Cruise?
Party Cruises happen just a few times a year and included an action packed itinerary of entertainment and extras. To make all the fun happen, a team of SuperBreak reps are with you throughout your entire trip to ensure everything runs smoothly and the entertainment is top notch (there are no SuperBreak reps on a standard Mini Cruise). The tribute acts perform on the ship on both the outbound and inbound journey and there are plenty of quizzes, games and prizes to be won.
The Party Cruise is great for groups and those looking to let their hair down and do a bit of celebrating. The standard Mini Cruise is perfect for couples, families and are a little more relaxed with no itinerary.
What facilities are on board the boat?
The ships are like floating hotels! There is absolutely everything you could ever want on them including 2 restaurants (one buffet, one a la carte), 4 bars, 2 cinema screens, a coffee shop / snack bar, 3 duty free shops, kids play area and outdoor deck with seating and bar. With so many facilities on board, you’ll never run out of things to do during your voyage
What are the cabins like?
In general, the cabins are compact but they come in a variety of types. The indoor cabins are the cheapest options and don’t have windows. If you’d prefer some natural light, the outdoor cabins have windows and only cost about £10pp to upgrade. There are also adjoining rooms for those of you travelling with families. The deluxe rooms are a little more spacious but most of the cabins have single beds that drop down from the walls to give you more space when you’re not sleeping. Don’t let this put you off though, you’ll spend hardly any time in your cabin.
TOP TIP: Cabins come complete with bedding and towels but the plugs are all European so be sure to bring a couple of adaptors!
Where does the Mini Cruise depart from?
All of our SuperBreak Mini Cruises depart from Hull Ferry Port in East Yorkshire. If your destination is in Holland you will arrive at Rotterdam ferry port and if your destination is in Belgium you will arrive at Zeebrugge ferry port.
Will I get sea sick?
As the ferries are so large, getting sea sick is uncommon. The majority of people are absolutely fine. The latest cruise I went on in November 2013 was completely smooth and it felt as if I was on dry land! There are lots of anti-sea sickness tablets and pressure bands to help if you want to be absolutely certain you won’t be affected.
What is included in the Mini Cruise packages?
With a mini cruise, your cabin accommodation on board the ship and, if you’re staying over, hotel accommodation in your destination are both included in the price of your package. Coach transfers to and from your destination are also included. If you’re attending a Party Cruise, you can also look forward to quizzes, party games, prizes and top notch live entertainment as park of your package.
How much do they cost?
Our mini cruises start from ONLY £78 per person for a 3 night stay including 1 night in a 4* hotel! Total bargain if you ask me.
