If you’re reading this post, chances are you’ve heard the great news that the legendary Tour de France is coming to Yorkshire! Having previously only taken place along the south coast and the capital of London, this will be the first time ever that the Tour de France 2014 will be coming up North. Dubbed The Yorkshire Grand Depart, this leg of the tour will consist of two routes taking place over 2 consecutive days.
Day 1: Saturday 5th July 2014, Leeds to Harrogate, 190km
Day 2: Sunday 6th July 2014, York to Sheffield, 200km
Being a York based company, you can imagine our delight in the Superbreak office when we heard the Tour de France 2014 would be winging its way all the way to Yorkshire. Cycling enthusiasts and sports fans all over the nation are getting excited about these fresh new Northern routes, and it is expected to attract millions of people from all over the world to our great county. The Grand Depart has been thrust further into the spotlight this week after Yorkshire has been named one of the top destinations in the world to visit in 2014 from travel giants Lonely Planet. Yorkshire is known for its friendly people and welcoming cities, so I have no doubt that we are going to be cracking hosts for this huge international event.
With so many visitors flocking to the county, hotels in Yorkshire are expected to be in extremely high demand during the Grand Depart, many expecting to sell out before the end of 2013. It’s also expected that the huge event will inspire people from around the UK and beyond to experience a short break in Yorkshire or even stay a week or 2. With short breaks at the core of what Superbreak do, we’ve got plenty of plans in motion to make sure we can be your first port of call for all things Yorkshire Grand Depart!
