How much of the UK could you see in a weekend? When you think about it, little old Britain isn’t that big, and if you really did fancy cramming a lot into your staycation this year, you could! Sure, you could have a relaxing weekend away. Sometimes though it’s just fun making like a tourist, getting your skates on and heading on a whistle-stop tour of your own country!
Want some inspiration? Our 5 Routes around the UK should give you some real food for thought!
Taking in the best of cosmopolitan Scotland, our first route includes time in both Glasgow and Edinburgh – and even some time across the border in beautiful Northumbria too! From the thrilling nightlife of Glasgow, right through to the breath-taking scenery of walks along the Northumbrian coast, this is a great way to experience a little of everything the region has to offer. Our hotels in Edinburgh are among our most popular – and whilst you could easily spend a whole weekend in the Scottish capital, we reckon the city’s famous Zoo and Castle are the most worthy landmarks for a visit!
Exploring the North-East’s finest cities, our second route includes some of our favourite short break destinations. With a wealth of great sights to see on this trip, we’d urge you to have a selfie stick handy! Is there any more iconic landmark in the North than Antony Gormley’s Angel? When you reach the historic half of the route, be sure to take a look at our fabulous hotels in York to make your stay extra special!
Our North-West exploration route has a little of everything too – from cosmopolitan Liverpool, to historic Chester to the beautiful countryside of Snowdonia in Wales, here you’ll get the full UK experience! Looking for new and iconic ways to travel? With the Mersey Ferry and Snowdon’s Mountain Railway both highlights on our route, this is the one for you. If you only book one hotel however, make it one in Chester; the Roman city has several gorgeous places to stay, perfect for hauling back your shopping to, and as a base for visiting the UK’s favourite Zoo!
The shortest geographically, our fourth route still manages to squeeze a lot into a weekend – don’t forget, you can add rail to all of our breaks to make your journey even easier! The beautiful heritage cities of Oxford and Bath share a kindred spirit – both are must-see short break destinations, and worthy of the time in their own right. Bristol – the biggest city in the region – can be anything you want it to be; with fabulous leafy regions and country houses, and an exciting city centre too, there’s much to see and do here.
From historic to contemporary, the South-East coastline trail offers a trip through some of the UK’s most significant places. From the historically influential Canterbury Cathedral to the country-defining site of the Battle of Hastings, history-lovers are sure to love the first half of our fifth route! Round it off with a good old trip to the UK seaside – Brighton is about as good as it gets. From great shopping on the Lanes to family-friendly fun on the Pier, for our money there’s nowhere nicer to wind up on a short break!
