We’ve put together a list of our five favourite rail break ideas to some of the most popular destinations for you to be inspired by. Don’t drive anywhere this winter, just sit back, relax and let your short break commence.
2 Night Rail Breaks
Instead of booking a fancy hotel and then worrying about the inevitable high train prices, why not take a look at our two night rail breaks that allow you to book everything at once and enjoy a fabulous weekend away? From London to York, Edinburgh to Manchester, we have breaks to a great selection of cities departing from over 100 stations. At the moment you can also save yourselves £10pp if you book before January 31st, giving you some extra spending money for a visit to an attraction or a romantic dinner for two. Don’t panic about how to get there, how to get back and everything in between, just hop on the train and enjoy your time in whichever wonderful city you choose to visit.
I’m probably biased considering it’s my home town, but York has to be one of the most magnificent cities that the UK has to offer. Whenever I return after a weekend away to see the stunning sight of the York Minster as it towers above the city, I can’t help but smile at just how beautiful the place is. Visitors always mention the quaint cafes and olde-worlde restaurants, and in all honesty I could go into York every day and still find something new. It’s the epitome of historical Britain with the City Walls, Viking landmarks and scenic city centre, and after all, it was the Roman capital of the north so it must have some pretty interesting sights. The railway station sits 5 minutes from the main shopping streets, and thanks its location on the major rail routes it’s easily accessible from most cities. For a romantic, cultural city break this winter, it has to be York.
London Hotel + Rail + Oyster Card
London has a reputation for being ridiculously overpriced and impossible to navigate if you don’t know where you’re going, but thanks to great rail offers and those little extra add-ons, all of that can be a thing of the past. Head to the capital without a care in the world by booking our London Hotel + Return Rail + Oyster Card deal from only £103pp, including a 3* hotel in the centre of the city. Choose your hotel, add on your rail and pick any extras that you think you might fancy doing while you’re there, including everything from Madame Tussauds to sightseeing buses, Thames River boat rides and much more. The Oyster Card is a great choice if you think you’ll be travelling around a bit, as it’s a pre-paid card for use on all tube and bus routes meaning you can hop-on and hop-off when you want. Instead of shying away from London over fears of expenses and complicated travel, check out the rail breaks we do and hopefully you’ll be reassured into visiting our wonderful capital.
Edinburgh is always among the list of UK cities that people wish to visit, and it’s not without reason. The city has an abundance of attractions, shops, restaurants and beautiful landscapes to keep anyone busy regardless of what you like doing. Only 4 hours 30 minutes from London and 2 hours 30 minutes from York by train, Edinburgh is a great choice for a short break wherever you are based, and with some of the most spectacular hotels available your trip can be that extra bit special. It’s definitely on my list of cities to visit next, and with our rail prices being anything up to 50% cheaper than booking separately, I know I won’t have to drive!
Wherever you’re from in the world, Paris is up there as one of the most popular cities to visit. ‘The ‘City of Love’ is a place of wonder for lovers of all things charming and romantic. With the obvious landmarks and delicious street stalls of crepes and pain au chocolat it’s a whirlwind of beautiful sights and smells that make Paris a ‘Must Visit’. With our Eurostar Paris breaks you can travel from London and be in Paris in less than three hours! With over 90 hotels to choose from, morning, midday or evening trains and complete flexibility on the length of your stay, taking the Eurostar to Paris is just about as easy as a foreign short break gets. It’s an incredible place and by far my favourite city in the world, but don’t take my word for it, get yourselves there!
