With the summer season in full swing, there’s one thing on all our minds…holidays!

As it’s my favourite time of the year, I relish in the task of finding my next holiday destination. From relaxing holidays soaking up the sun to adventurous sightseeing city breaks, I love having so many different options when planning the perfect summer trip.

As I began the search for my summer 2013 holiday, I instantly became indecisive with what I wanted out of my break. Sun was a definitive (of course), but I also wanted to discover some cultural sights and experience a holiday with a difference. My search led me to Lake Garda.

Lake Garda has had a firm place on my list of ‘Places to visit’ for a while now and I felt this year was the perfect time. Offering spectacular views, traditional Italian cuisine and a variety of outdoor activities and sightseeing opportunities, you can really get the most out of a holiday at Italy’s most famous lake.

Staying just outside the quaintly beautiful town of Malcesine, we were in the perfect location for exploring what the area has to offer. With handy local tourist buses running every hour and boats sailing to various towns across the lake, we enjoyed discovering iconic Italian buildings and winding streets with plenty of traditional cafés and bistros. I particularly enjoyed visiting Malcesine Castle, a beautiful structure in the heart of the town offering tourists an insight into the history of the area and more amazing views of the tranquil lake.

Historic buildings and tasty food aside, the lake itself really is the main attraction for the area. The sheer size of the place combined with the natural beauty of clear water and mountainous landscapes leaves you in utter wonderment. We were lucky enough to have a lakeside balcony letting us enjoy the idyllic views while watching the sun set with a glass of local red wine.

If this is all a bit mushy for you, don’t worry. The secret of Lake Garda is you can make it as adventurous or as relaxing as you want. If exciting and heart stopping activities are your thing, then you’ll feel right at home on the lake. From biking down the mountains in true expedition style to paragliding over the lake like James Bond, you can easily turn your holiday into an exhilarating escape.

For those looking for an exciting venture without the thrill of danger, then you can opt for the Monte Baldo cableway in Malcesine. Reaching an altitude of 1760m, you really feel like you’re in the clouds with impressive views of the whole lake. We took this opportunity to take further snap shots of the breath taking scenery before descending back down the cableway for some more important sunbathing.

A holiday in Lake Garda is the perfect place to experience a mix of Italian sun, food, scenery and excursions to suit everyone. Whether you’re looking for a romantic retreat, relaxing break or an exciting fun-filled adventure, Lake Garda can offer it all.
