In the recent midst of bauble juggling, mince pie gorging and entertaining Nan, the New Year always feels like a million miles away. But year after year, the inevitable happens and it comes round quicker than I can finish my bumper tin of Quality Streets. Now all of a sudden it’s 27th December, and I am stressing about what on earth I am going to wear for New Years Eve and how I am going to keep my New Years resolution.
I for one am notoriously bad at keeping my New Years resolution, maintaining my promise for an average or 4-6 days – willpower dependent. However, this will be my first January at Superbreak Towers, so I have decided a January mini break would be the perfect way to stick to my New Years resolution. This year, it’s a toss up between a new hobby or volunteer work (I am hoping this could be my first year of triumph as both of these resolutions allow chocolate consumption). For every resolution, there is a mini-break to match, and these are my travel prescriptions to help ease the pain…
-Give something up
As classic as they come, this resolution is guaranteed to bring cravings that drive you round the bend. Putting a reward in place with a fun city break could be the carrot on the end of the stick to reach your goal. Getting away with close friends or a loved one would be a great way to distract any final cravings and would give you something to look forward to during the gruelling process.
-Spend more time with family
This may be hard to comprehend after being cooped up with Auntie Jean for days over the festive period, but sticking to quality time with your nearest and dearest is a great way to start the New Year. A London theatre break is always a hit with the whole family and with such a fantastic collection of new shows on at the moment, there’s never been a better time to go.
-Beat the Christmas bulge
Probably the most common of resolutions, but close to impossible with so much left over Christmas pud lying around. Getting away for a spa break could give you a valuable push in the right direction towards a healthier lifestyle. With many Spa packages offering health suites, detoxifying treatments and deliciously healthy restaurants, a winter Spa break could be exactly what you need to de-bulge and de-stress after the Christmas Season.
-Learn something new
A new language, ballroom dancing, becoming a karate black belt; sometimes being unrealistic about your resolution can cause you to fail at the first hurdle. Why not start off gently by embarking on an attractions break? There are fantastic cultural, educational and entertaining attractions all over theUK that are bound to get you thinking outside the box.
-Travel to new places
If a fortnight in Benidorm is as far as your sense of adventure goes, this might be the New Years Resolution for you. Travelling to new places can be daunting for some, but equally incredibly exciting. With such fantastic Eurostar links to destinations such as Paris, Bruges and Amsterdam, you can enjoy a European break simply by hopping on a (very fast) train.
