As you already know, this summer is set to be the summer of sport. With the Olympics and Euro 2012 now tantalisingly close, we think now is the perfect time to incorporate sports into your short break this summer. If you don’t fancy braving the capital during the Olympics fear not, as we’ve rounded up a range of fun activities to please everyone from the conventional sports fan to the adrenaline junkie.
National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham: You can make a splash during your short break in the Midlands as Nottingham is lucky enough to be the home of the National Water Sports Centre. There’s no end of water-based activities to try your hand at including sailing, canoeing, kayaking, power boating, rafting, water skiing and any other water sport you could think of. What’s more, the centre is regularly used by the British Slalom and White Water Rafting teams, meaning you definitely have access to the best facilities. We have plenty of Nottingham hotels located close by, so you’ll always have a relaxing base to come back to after an exciting day.
Pony Trekking in the New Forest: For a considerably quieter short break in southern England, give theNew Forest a try. This is a breathtaking part of the country and an activity break is one of the most interesting ways to explore it. Pony trekking in the New Forest National Park is one of the more popular methods of doing so and allows you to take in the scenery at a leisurely pace. I’ve tried this activity myself and think it’s a great way to sight see with a difference. If horse riding isn’t your thing then pay a visit to the Calshot Activity Centre where you can sample numerous indoor and outdoor activities. They offer everything from rock climbing and windsurfing to indoor track cycling and so much more.
Xscape, Castleford Yorkshire: Xscape is a popular activity destination located in Castleford,Yorkshire and a must-visit for activity goers on a short break. It boasts the Snozone, a real snow slope for skiing and snowboarding as well as a climbing wall, aerial assault course and mini golf. I enjoy trying out new activities and I think this would be the perfect place to do it. If all the activities leave you tired out, XScape also houses numerous restaurants and cafés where you can unwind.
Adrenaline in Perthshire: Perthshire is the perfect place for a short break in Scotland. Those who are interested in a more extreme kind of activity break may want to sample canyoning and gorge walking. If you have a real sense of adventure and a liking for heights then these activities will surely make your short break all the more exciting.
