With Easter just around the corner it’s about time you planned your Easter family break! For many of us in the UK and internationally, London is one of the most popular cities to visit for a short break, but it can sometimes be hard to find things to do that everybody will enjoy, and a lot of the attractions can be rather expensive. To help make sure you enjoy your family trip to London, we’ve put together a list of free attractions in the capital that all have something a little bit different to offer. Whether it’s education, history, food or fashion you fancy discovering, London has plenty of free things to do when you know where to look!
Natural History Museum
For me this is already one of the most exciting museums to visit in London already, but the fact that entry is free makes it even better! From the moment you walk in and see the huge T.Rex skeleton to the moment you leave, everything about this place is breathtaking. As well as learning about the history of the planet, kids will love all of the interactive games, fascinating tours and incredible archaeological finds. They even offer a parents’ survival guide to make sure you enjoy your visit as much as possible!
Just a few miles north of Central London lies 790 acres of stunning landscape, woodlands and ponds. For a family day in the outdoors, Hampstead Heath is the ideal choice. Pack a picnic and a football and spend all day exploring the wonderful grounds as well as two Easter fairs that are taking place on the upper and lower heaths.
Spitalfields City Farm
For something completely out-of-the-ordinary, why not visit Spitalfields City Farm – 1.3 acres of land in central London filled with a wide variety of animals. With over 18,000 visitors every year, this registered charity is fast becoming one of the most popular free attractions in London. Run solely by volunteers, this city farm is a great little haven away from the busy city.
Changing of the Guard
If you fancy experiencing something iconic while on your London Easter break, seeing The Changing of the Guard is a great way to do it for free! You’ll get some great family photos outside of Buckingham Palace and if you’re lucky you match catch a glimpse of the Queen!
Classed as the greatest museum of art and design in the world, The Victoria & Albert museum boasts collections from all over the world as well as some of the most popular exhibitions. Although the exhibitions are chargeable, you can explore the rest of the museum for free.
This is London’s most renowned food market, and offers delicious produce from all over the world. Try free samples of anything and everything as you wander around the stalls, learning about where it all comes from and how it was made, and watch amazing demonstrations from world-class chefs. The stallholders know everything there is to know about their produce which is why it’s become one of the city’s hotspots, so make sure you visit and discover some mouth-watering food!
