I don’t know about you, but the winter is definitely getting the better of me right now. I’m constantly finding myself drifting off into daydreams about distant lands and cultural havens. Obviously working for a travel company doesn’t help, but the plus side is that I get to spot the latest deals as soon as they come through! So, I thought I’d share with you the best European deals I’ve come across so we can all escape into the sun as soon as possible. Here’s my pick of the top 5 European breaks for May Bank Holiday with some amazing deals to match.

Rome is a classic location that never fails to impress. With endless cultural hotspots and historical landmarks to explore, plus some of the finest local cuisine in the whole of Europe, the Italian capital is a must see this May Bank Holiday. Take a sightseeing tour to ensure you catch a glimpse of everything that city has to offer, then sit back and relax in the numerous al fresco eateries and bars that line the cobbled streets.

It just keeps popping up – whether it’s discussing the incredible day trip to Tangier or soaking up it’s time on the small screen in documentaries, Gibraltar is definitely one of this years’ most up-and-coming destinations. It’s a dream for those of you who love getting away but like to enjoy your home comforts, too. With temperatures reaching 40C in the summer months and miles of sandy beaches to enjoy it on, it’s hard to find any reason not to book a visit in 2014.

Iconic canal houses line the waterways in Amsterdam

This intriguing city welcomes thousands of Brits each year, come rain or shine. From the obvious draw of its city centre attractions to the more rural towns and picturesque villages, it truly is a ‘one size fits all’ location. Head to Damrak and explore the likes of Madame Tussauds, the gory Amsterdam Dungeons and the abundance of traditional cafés (try the apple pie!), or catch a tram to the outskirts of the city for a more authentic break. The best way to see it all is by booking a canal cruise, where you’ll learn all about the city’s vast history from a knowledgeable guide.

* 3 Night Mini Cruise + the 4* Dutch Design Hotel Artemis from £120pp

Only a 2 hour flight from the UK, it’s hard not to jet off to the Catalan capital at a moment’s notice! I’ve not been since I was too young to remember, but I have numerous friends who just can’t get enough of its warm and inviting atmosphere. Whether you like shopping, football, eating out, lying on the beach or anything in between, this amazing city has it all. Spend your Euros strolling down Las Ramblas then take a trip to the iconic Sagrada Familia to take in its impressive design. Or, grab a sangria and hit the beach!

* 3 Nights in the 4* Euro Hotel Diagonal Port + Return Flights from London Southend from £219pp

Prague by night – a picturesque location

These days it’s not just planes full of stag-dos that are flying out for a weekend of fun in Prague. Thankfully, the rest of us seem to have begun recognising just how incredible this baroque city is, and the best part about it all is that short breaks here are ridiculously good value. Indulge in Prague’s history and its reams of landmarks, from the distinctive astronomical clock in the centre to the picture-postcard setting of Prague Castle. There’s a lively hub of shops, bars and restaurants too meaning the night time is just as exciting as the day.

* 3 Nights in the 3* Olympik Tristar Hotel + Return Fights from Manchester from £191pp
