So here we are again, the soap opera that is the England World Cup bid continues! First we had Lord Triesman accuse Spain and Russia of bribing referees, then the USA pulled out their bid to support England. Now we have Russia criticising the English before quickly making a u-turn and apologising for the whole affair!
After complaining about Russia’s negative comments towards the country, which is a violation of World Cup rules, England’s bid team received an apology from the rival bidders and have decided to drop the case against them.
But where does that leave the 2018 World Cup? With all these allegations flying around not one bidding country looks particularly strong at the moment in the media spotlight. However, England can still rest easy knowing that they have an incredibly strong bid for hosting the 2018 World Cup.
Not only does England have one of the largest, if not the largest, football fan base in the world but we have world class football stadiums in London, Manchester and across the UK. We also have multiple international airports for travelling fans and excellent tourist facilities across the country. Plus we haven’t held the World Cup since 1966!
So what do we think? Will England beat the likes of Spain and Russia and get to host the 2018 World Cup?
