As we begin to look forward to our 2015 travels, we thought we’d highlight some of the top destinations that will become ever more popular over the next 12 months. After a year of huge interest in Reykjavik and the Nordic regions, we’re interested to see which European short break hotspots will take your fancy…here are five that we think you should be keeping an eye on, and definitely be pencilling in to your 2015 calendar!

Lyon

Settled in the heart of the Rhone-Alpes region, the historic city of Lyon is surrounded by the wine regions of Beaujolais and Côtes du Rhône, and has the largest number of Michelin-starred restaurants outside of Paris. As the culinary capital of France, it’s no wonder that short break lovers are considering Lyon over the capital these days. With two magnificent rivers, the Rhone and Saône, the original Roman settlement of Lugdunum on Fourvière hill and the largest display of Renaissance architecture in France, Lyon is a spectacular example of a world heritage site.

The best part? We now offer Eurostar breaks direct to Lyon! From just £202pp, you can enjoy 3 nights in a 3* hotel with return Eurostar travel from St Pancras*. We think Lyon may just steal the limelight in 2015.

Istanbul

SuperBreak’s Head of Overseas, Chris Hagan has just returned from this exciting city…

“In travel we often describe cities as melting pots, a mix of cultures all blended so that it just ‘works’, and there is no example where the phrase is more appropriate than Istanbul.  Ruins from the Roman Empire (of which Constantinople, todays Istanbul was the capital from years 330-395) mix with reminders of the Byzantine and Ottoman times.  Mosques (and non as stunning as the world famous Blue Mosque) sit alongside Christian Churches, H&M sits next to a traditional carpet store, fast food restaurants alongside tea houses – it’s mindboggling.

It’s also very easy to get around with a cheap, modern metro and tram system which is a godsend in the traffic and even the ferries across the Bosphorus form part of the public transport system so sightseeing from the sea is fantastic value.  On an evening the area around Taksim Square comes alive with every street and alleyway home to bars and restaurants, again a mix of cosmopolitan and traditional with music carrying on until the early hours of the morning (so I am told!).  It’s exotic, yet familiar and only less than a 4 hour flight away – the perfect short break destination’.”

Prague

The Czech capital has fast become one of the most fashionable destinations for a short break in Eastern Europe. The ideal location for keen sightseers, you’ll be blown away by bustling Wenceslas Square, the Old Town and the iconic looking Astronomical Clock. It’s not a secret that Prague also offers and incredible nightlife, with cheaper than cheap beer, an abundance of chilled out bars and the Letná Beer Garden…perfect for a sunny evening. It truly is a destination that could please all, and should definitely be on your bucket list next year.

Flight and Hotel Packages to Prague start from just £146pp for 3 nights in a 3* hotel B&B.

Malta

After it was announced that new Hollywood hit ‘By the Sea’ starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was to be filmed in Malta and nearby Gozo, attention to the Mediterranean island really took off. As a favourite among the staff here at SuperBreak, we really wouldn’t be surprised if Malta’s popularity for short breaks caught the headlines in 2015. Steeped in ancient history with golden beaches, and abundance of diving centres and a vibrant nightlife, it’s often overlooked and underestimated. We think Malta could be one to watch for a break in the sun next year!

Our flight inclusive packages to Malta start from just £170.50pp, including 4 nights in a 3* hotel B&B.

Lisbon

Portugal has always been one of my favourite destinations for a holiday (primarily The Algarve), but the more I hear about Lisbon, the more I know how perfect it is for a few days of sunny cultural sightseeing. Just over 2 hours from most UK airports, it’s easily accessible, has great weather, endless historical landmarks and great shopping. From UNESCO World Heritage Sites to one of the finest zoos in Europe, a short break in Lisbon is definitely one to consider. Plus, you can still enjoy the beauty of pristine Portuguese beaches and the heat of The Med sunshine.

From just £148 you can enjoy 2 nights + flights in a lovely 3* hotel, B&B…what are you waiting for?
