The build up to Christmas and New Year is undoubtedly an exciting time for everyone, but making sure those festive moments are memorable can be a tricky task. One of the many festive decisions I face each year is where to spend New Year’s Eve. With so many different cities, near and far offering wonderful celebratory NYE events, we really are spoilt for choice. But there’s always one very special NYE destination that springs to mind, and that’s Dublin.
Regarded as one of the top 5 destinations in the world for New Year’s Eve, Dublin is definitely a smart choice when it comes to seeing in the New Year. Why I hear you ask? Well let me tell you all about the NYE Dublin Festival. Whether you’re young, old, a parent, a teen, a local or a tourist, with mates, family or a loved one, I think the New Year’s Eve Dublin Festival has something for everyone!
The People’s Procession of Light
Last year’s NYE in Dublin saw the launch of The Gathering Ireland 2013, a year-long celebration of all that is great about Ireland. To celebrate the start of such a special year, Dublin hosted a variety of NYE events including the spectacular People’s Procession of Light. Following last year’s success, the People’s Procession of Light is back for another fantastically glowing New Year’s Eve event in Dublin!
A magical torch-lit parade, spectators and participants can celebrate New Year’s Eve in Dublin while enjoying an array of street entertainment including fire-breathers, stilt walkers and dancers. Guests are also encouraged to light candles and float them on the River Liffey creating a truly beautiful display through the centre of Dublin. As the finale of The Gathering Ireland 2013, this year’s parade promises to be bigger and better than ever, and I for one cannot wait!
Still not convinced Dublin is the place to be on NYE? Well how does the Dublin New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert grab you? Join the iconic ska band Madness and singer-song writer Ryan Sheridan for an evening of incredible entertainment in the lead up to the big countdown! With stunning 3D projections on the historically famous Trinity College, amazing fireworks and an electrifying atmosphere, it’s the perfect way to start the New Year.
The Big Brunch 2014
There’s no time for rest after celebrating NYE in Dublin! Shake off the sleepiness on New Year’s Day and head to Temple Bar for another fantastically exciting event. The Big Brunch 2014 – the day after the night before – offers amazing live music, dancing, performances, children’s entertainment and much, much more! Perfect for the whole family, you’ll find something to amuse all ages with plenty of time to reminisce the night before and share your New Year goals for 2014 on the special Resolutions Tree.
