Welcome to my first blog of what I hope will be many! – Having just returned from Barcelona, I just wanted to let everyone know what a great place it is to visit over the winter period.

When I left Gatwick airport last Friday it was a freezing 2 degrees, just one and a half hours later I was in a sunny Barcelona enjoying a very pleasant 17 degrees – not sunbathing weather but certainly warm enough to walk around without a coat.

The city has loads to offer tourists including the awe inspiring Nou Camp stadium home to Barcelona FC – I think I would give my right arm to actually go and see a game there.

Public transport is easy and cheap and the food is to die for – I managed to grab some tapas and local wine in a small restaurant just off Las Ramblas and it was amazing (although not too great for my diet!). I have to say that it is probably my favourite European city at the moment – so over to your guys, let me know where your favourite winter city getaway would be?
