As autumn gradually creeps up on us and the summer becomes a distant memory, it can be easy to forget that most places in Europe still offer great weekend break options in the latter part of the year – especially for budding golfers! Not only does the autumn offer the opportunity for a more peaceful round of golf, it also means that the packages are generally cheaper and the golf more challenging…the weather and more difficult rough are what makes the sport so exciting, right!?

Yes it’s great teeing off in the blinding sunshine off Portugal’s Algarve during the summer months, but there’s nothing more perfect than wrapping up warm and enjoying the beauty of the UK courses in October and November. After spending the hotter part of the year sunbathing on the beach and drinking cocktails, taking a golf break when the weather’s not quite a nice is the ideal way to break up that somewhat miserable gap between summer and Christmas.

Undoubtedly the most stunning place to take on a British golf break is Scotland. With rolling hills and heather for miles around, the rugged terrain is the perfect location to brave the climate and get that round in…especially when you can stay in some gorgeous hotels too! Northern England also offers some great course for autumn golf (as well as some great pubs for afterwards!) and Kent’s coast is a beautiful destination all year round. Obviously the option of Spanish and Portuguese courses is available throughout the year, but it’s in the autumn that our own home-grown courses come into their own.

If you shop around when booking the golf for a weekend break, you can find some hidden gems with really great added extras. Take the Breadsall Priory Golf Course for example – here not only do you enjoy a difficult yet rewarding course, but you can also stay in a 13th century Grade II listed building, or Hollins Hall which offers USGA specification tees and greens.

Whether you plan a golf break every year or this is the first time you’re thinking of doing so, the autumn really is a great time to hit the course. Some of the hotels that offer the golf packages are incredible, so make a full weekend out of it and enjoy everything they have to offer!
