It’s not every day you get to speak to a genie, but SuperBreak’s Head of Theatre David Thomas got the chance to do just that when he interviewed Trevor Dion Nicholas, who plays the genie in the West End production of Aladdin – coming to London’s West End in June. Did he grant him any wishes, read on to find out…
Guest post by David Thomas
Eight months ago I was fortunate enough to see Disney’s hugely entertaining and ravishingly beautiful Aladdin on Broadway. It was there, on the stage of the New Amsterdam Theatre, that we were told, in strictest confidence, that Trevor Dion Nicholas would be playing the Genie when the show opened in London.
Flash Forward eight months and I met up with Trevor again in the bar of the Prince Edward Theatre (Aladdin’s West End home). The night before, at the public dress rehearsal, Trevor had stopped the show with a spontaneous standing ovation for his rendition of Friend Like Me.
That evening he would be taking to the stage for the first preview.
With such a busy line-up of performances, I am so grateful to Trevor for finding time in his roller-coaster schedule to grant my wish for an interview.
