If you’re a horseracing fan, or just keen to get involved in one of the biggest events of Britain’s social calendar, it’s nearly time to don your best hat and morning dress and head to the races at the Royal Ascot.
Horse racing in Ascot is a time-honoured tradition that will celebrate its 400th anniversary in 2011, but I’ve got a more personal stake in this year’s races – thanks to a friend planning her hen weekend in a fancy hotel in Ascot!
So while we’ll be enjoying all the revelry of a great girlie weekend, we’ll be sure to compose ourselves for the austere and respectable royal events at Ascot Racecourse next week, especially for the prestigious Gold Cup on Thursday. After all, it’s not every day you find yourself in the presence of the Queen!
As a major society meeting, it’s true that you’re likely to find more press coverage of who’s attending and what they’re wearing rather than the actual race results themselves, and already the headlines are full of the news that Prince Charles won’t make this year’s event as he’s recovering from a chest infection.
Still, you won’t want to let the side down in the presence of the other royals, but fortunately there’s some timely advice available – check out the BBC’s ‘what not to wear’ guide to avoid falling at the first hurdle with Ascot’s notoriously strict dress code!
The Royal Ascot isn’t just about dressing up, of course, and if you’re keen to get more out of your Ascot visit than just appearances, you can find all the latest odds and race favourites online or in your local betting shop. Many of the big companies are offering some great vouchers on Ascot races too, which could be well worth checking out if you fancy a flutter.
You don’t have to head to the bookies to find great voucher offers though, as here at Superbreak we’re still offering our fantastic deal when you book your break before the end of June! Be sure to use the voucher code DV000149MPMLADMS at the end of the booking process and you could get £25 off the cost of your break to Ascot and other top destinations around the UK. I’ll see you there!
