We Superbreakers are a lucky bunch. Not only do we get to see the latest West End theatre shows and hottest O2 Arena concerts, we also get invited to stay in some of the loveliest hotels in the country (not that we’re biased or anything). Staying in our Superbreak hotels gives me a sense of real customer experience and means I can tell all you lovely lot what it’s like to stay there. So when I was invited to experience a nights stay at the 4* Daventry Court Hotel in Northamptonshire complete with dinner and spa treatments, you can imagine my answer! Purely for the good of our loyal Superbreak Blog readers, of course…

Having arranged the night’s stay well over a month in advance, I had been looking forward to my relaxing night away for quite some time and after staying in other lovely Puma Hotels my expectations were pretty high. So last Saturday, my friend and I jumped in the car ready for a road-trip to reach our indulgent country getaway (I felt like Bridget Jones minus the head scarf and convertible car). The unexpected blue skies and sunshine certainly helped our approach to The Daventry Court as we arrived in the spacious and super shiny reception area.

We were greeted by a lovely receptionist who gave us the low down on the hotel and pointed us in the direction of our room. The Daventry Court is built around a gorgeous central courtyard with lush green grass, seating areas and fountains. Being closed off at all four sides, the courtyard is entirely private for hotel guests and provides a perfect little oasis, especially in the sun! Luckily, we were blessed with sunshine on arrival so the courtyard looked extremely impressive.

Stepping into our room my first thought was WOW – look at that bed! (Followed by the obligatory jump-on-bed scenario to check out the mattress). King size, amazingly comfy with those gorgeous soft white sheets you find in really nice hotels, I was more than happy to call it my base for the night. After a quick freshen up in the ultra modern bathroom, we made our way to the spa to enjoy our treatments.

The spa complex at The Daventry Court has everything under one roof; fully equipped gym, pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and of course, those all important treatment rooms. In other words, somewhere I could have quite happily spent the whole day! Changing into my fluffy robe and slippers I was looking forward to my treatments, which were a back neck and shoulder massage followed by an Elemis facial. My lovely therapist  Danielle introduced herself and brought me into a very tranquil and private treatment room and began to work her magic!

As a self confessed spa junkie, I’ve had a fair few massages in my time, but I am being totally genuine when I say it was quite possibly the best massage I’ve ever had. Danielle loosened and worked my back with incredible skill which left me feeling completely unravelled. Next came my facial, which was entirely tailored around my skin type and even included a head and neck massage. All in all it was a blissful experience that took me to a much further place than Northamptonshire! The only problem was that it didn’t last long enough!

Following our treatments we headed to the pool complex. With a few kiddies splashing in the pool I decided to maintain my state of calm by relaxing on one of the many sun loungers then headed for the Jacuzzi. One of the spa staff brought us a cool glass of water whilst we bubbled away and slowly came back down to earth!

After a little siesta we were ready for dinner so headed to the hotel’s FUEL restaurant. The expansive restaurant is large enough to accommodate the whole hotel, but we were taken to a quiet corner by the window, making it feel much cosier. After choosing a gorgeous bottle of Chile Sauvignon Blanc we were ready to order our mains.

I went for Goats Cheese, Pesto and Beetroot Salad to start followed by Slow Cooked Lamb Potage with roast vegetables. The Lamb was cooked to perfection with that lovely melt in the mouth texture you only get by giving the lamb it some serious TLC! After seeing the dessert menu had a Raspberry Cheesecake – my ultimate weakness – it was a no brainer what to order! We both finished off with the cheesecake which was a perfect end to the meal. We enjoyed the wine so much we went for a second bottle and went to enjoy it in the FUEL bar and lounge area. (Check out The Daventry’s fab dinner deal for a great value stay with dinner included)

As we were on a flying visit, unfortunately we had no time to explore the surrounding areas which include Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick and Northampton. Had I have had an extra day, I would have liked to have visited Warwick Castle. With a full spa complex, delicious dining options, sumptuous beds and a private court yard, I’d recommend The Daventry for a great escape. The Daventry Court Hotel proved to be a relaxing and welcoming retreat in the heart of Northamptonshire and was perfect for a cosy night away. But don’t take my word for it, see it for yourself!
