It’s official – Scotland’s favourite short break destination is… Scotland! And why wouldn’t it be? It’s a magical place! That in mind, we thought we’d highlight some of the finest places for little getaway in Bonny Scotland. With so many stunning castles around, we think there’s no finer place to stay…
1) Mercure Barony Castle & Spa (Peebles)
You’ll feel like royalty when staying at the 3* Mercure Barony Caste & Spa on the Scottish border. The hotel is surrounded by 25 acres of majestic gardens & woodland, meaning that it’s a perfect retreat for anyone looking for some peace & quiet – it is definitely one for those of looking to really escape day-to-day life. There’s plenty of time to relax and unwind, too! Whether that’s enjoying a dip in the spa bath in the Azure Health & Fitness Suite, or whether it’s enjoying a delicious meal & glass of wine in the hotel restaurant; there’s plenty to enjoy at this Scottish Castle hideaway!
2)Tulloch Castle Hotel (Dingwall)
15 miles north of Inverness, the 4* retreat of Tulloch Castle provides a spectacular highland short break. The local beauty and natural landscapes are a welcome view from the window as you relax by the roaring log fire. Just minutes from a bustling market town, there’s still plenty to do and see during your visit, but in reality you probably won’t want to step foot outside the door.
3) Stonefield Castle Hotel (Loch Fyne)
That four-poster bed has me sold! Nestled in 60 acres of untouched woodlands and with incomparable views of Loch Fyne, Stonefield Castle offers an ideal location with 4* luxury accommodation. Why not pay a visit to the Isle of Bute – a popular destination for tourists visiting the area and looking for a taste of local life. Then, upon your return, indulge in some of the finest local produce in the castle’s AA Rosette restaurant, with its panoramic views of the grounds. Sounds like heaven to me!
4) Airth Castle & Spa Resort (Airth by Falkirk)
A grand castle with a grand interior, the Airth Castle & Spa provides the ultimate break away in central Scotland. Here you’ll not only find the stunning surroundings you come to expect from the area, but top quality leisure facilities, modern amenities and impressive rooms. Stay in the castle section (as it’s been expanded into a hotel, too), and experience the extravagant mix of four-poster beds, 21st century technology and incredible views across the rolling countryside.
5) Atholl Palace Hotel (Pitlochry)
Lying on the edge of Cairngorms National Park, the Atholl Palace Hotel is a home-away-from-home in a breath-taking location. If peace and tranquillity is what you’re after from your next short break, this should be at the top of your list! Not only do you have access to the wilds of the Highlands, the hotel also offers everything you could possibly need to keep you busy yet relaxed during your stay – from indoor pools, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and wide range of luxurious beauty treatments to tennis courts and a 9-hole pitch and putt golf course. What more could you ask for?
