2015: Year of The Ogre?

It seems utterly extraordinary to think that popular animated comedy Shrek was released in 2001 – how has so much time past? But everyone’s favourite Ogre has never been away since; a string of hit films here, a smash hit West End musical there… Shrek, Donkey and the whole gang have captured the hearts of audiences old and new time and time again.

In 2015 though, Shrek may just have his best year yet. Not only is Shrek’s Adventure! – a brand new family-friendly attraction set on London’s Southbank – opening this summer, but Shrek The Musical will return to the stage later this year too on a thrilling UK Tour.

Shrek’s Adventure!

Eagerly anticipated, London’s newest attraction is inspired by everyone’s favourite DreamWorks characters. Shrek’s Adventure! – open just in time for the holidays – might just be the highlight of your kids’ summer.

On-board a special Red London Tour Bus you’ll ride through Shrek’s Adventure! chauffeured by none other than Donkey, Shrek’s outrageously funny sidekick. Taking you through 10 storybook adventures, you’ll find your fortune in Esmerelda’s crystal ball, get lost in the mirror maze, and have lots more fun with your favourite characters besides. You’ll get the chance to meet Princess Fiona, Puss in Boots, the Three Little Pigs, Pinocchio and ‘Gingy’ the Gingerbread man at various times in the tour.

Family-friendly immersive fun – think of The London Dungeons without the scary bits, replaced with the hilarity of Shrek’s misadventures – this brand new attraction is certain to attract fans from right across the world. Set on London’s vibrant Southbank, Shrek’s Adventure! is in a simply perfect place to enjoy a London attraction break, and you can easily combine it with a trip on The London Eye or exploring the depths of the London Aquarium.

Shrek The Musical

A simply huge success when it ran in the West End between 2011 and 2013, Shrek The Musical was first seen in the UK at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Loved by critics and audiences alike, the show was praised for capturing the humour of the DreamWorks film and was nominated for four gongs at the prestigious Olivier Awards.

Naturally enough, when a UK tour was announced last year, Shrek fans around the country were beside themselves. Offering a great chance to catch this joyous show in a city near you is too good to miss, and seeing West End-quality theatre outside of London is all too rare not to make the most of. If you’re planning a short break in Scotland later this year, don’t miss Shrek The Musical at Edinburgh’s Playhouse Theatre where the show will run for three weeks between October and November.

A special treat for Christmas, the whole family can enjoy Shrek The Musical in Cardiff when it rolls into the Welsh capital in December. Dump the age-old Pantomime in favour of your favourite Fairy Tale characters, and laugh along with the raucous Far, Far Away gang instead. Recommended for ages 5 and up, everyone can enjoy this genuinely hilarious show; with a book written by Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire, it’s not just for the kids to enjoy!
