No matter what state the financial climate people will always go on theatre breaks. Rain or shine people flock to London to see the latest West End spectaculars and the firmly established favourites. Last week the Society of London Theatre announced that 2010 saw record attendances at London theatres, with more than 14 million theatregoers enjoying one of the many productions on offer and both plays and musicals receiving a high number of audience members.
The year’s achievements will be celebrated at the esteemed Laurence Olivier Awards, with nominees to be announced on the 7th February and the awards to be honoured on the 13th March. The awards will take place at the renowned Theatre Royal on Drury Lane recently home to Oliver! and soon to host Shrek the musical.
With plenty of new shows opening in 2011 the trend is sure to continue. If you are planning a trip down to the capital you can look forward to seeing an array of fantastic new shows. From Shakespeare to legendary Rock n Roll stars and ghostly apparitions there are plenty of shows to choose from and something to suit all tastes.
