Alongside The Little Mermaid, The Lion King was one of my most-watched films when I was growing up. I’m not ashamed to say that I still know most of the words to the songs (and all the bits in between) and never fail to get teary-eyed when the silhouette of Mufasa’s trampled body emerges from the clouds of dust.

Despite being a huge fan of the Disney film, I’m yet to see the award-winning stage adaptation that’s wowed millions; The Lion King Musical. I’ve been told countless times by friends and colleagues that the show is amazing so I have definitely got it on my must-see list for this year. Luckily, a touring version of the show set off in Bristol last year, and has numerous venues on its calling list for 2013, giving me more chances than ever to see it.

Here’s where you can catch the show on a theatre break this year:

The Lion King London
Lyceum Theatre, All Year Round

A hit with all of the family in since the late 1990s, The Lion King London is now in its 14th year at the Lyceum Theatre. Nominated for Best New Musical, the show took home the title of Best Costume Design at the prestigious Olivier Awards in 1999.

The Lion King Manchester
The Palace Theatre, Until 31 March 2013

Giving Superbreak customers in the north of England the chance to see this stunning show without having to travel down to London, The Lion King Manchester is currently showing at the city’s The Palace Theatre.

The Lion King Dublin
The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, 27 April – 22 June 2013

The Lion King Musical will arrive in Ireland for the first time ever when it takes to the stage at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin. After being renamed in 2012 from The Grand Canal Theatre, the theatre has hosted a range of sell-out shows with The Lion King Dublin also set to be hugely popular.

The Lion King Birmingham
The Birmingham Hippodrome, 29 June – 28 Sept 2013

Enjoy a city break this summer and combine a theatre break to see The Lion King Birmingham with fantastic shopping and sightseeing. The Birmingham Hippodrome where the show is playing is just a short walk from the iconic Bullring Shopping centre, as well as plenty of restaurants, bars and entertainment venues.

The Lion King Edinburgh
Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre, 12th Oct 2013 to 18th Jan 2014

From mid-October The Lion King Musical will call at Edinburgh for the tour’s only Scottish dates. As the show will be playing at the city’s Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre until mid-January, The Lion King Edinburgh is the perfect excuse to head to the Scottish capital for a festive break.
