Our resident Theatre Guru David Thomas was lucky enough to catch Kinky Boots last night. Here he shares his thoughts on the latest Broadway smash to grace the West End stage…

London wakes to a new hit musical today as the West End welcomes Kinky Boots to the fabulous collection of top shows promising SuperBreak clients a great night out.  And, of course, I wake to a hangover after celebrating far too long into the night with cast and celebrities such as Graham Norton and Tom Daley.

But let’s get one thing straight.  While Killian Donnelly and Matt Henry fully deserve all the accolades heaped upon them as the show’s two male leads, I would like to give a big, big hand to the excellent female cast, led by Amy Lennox, who turns in one of the funniest performances I have seen in ages – switching from diminutive dormouse to feisty firebrand in a blink of an eye (her number The History Of Wrong Guys is worth the ticket price alone).

And there is one other cast member I should mention.  A very important one.  But one who you will not find mentioned in the programme or on the website… the audience.  The reaction from the public (the applause, the cheers, the cries of laughter) starts from the very first minute of the show and doesn’t stop until the last standing ovation -and there are LOTS of those.

To be honest, it is more like a dialogue, a conversation between the performers and the audience… and one you will REALLY enjoy taking part in.
