Not sure what show to see this season? We’ve got an idea of what it should be! A touching, innovative and timely play, War Horse is one production that you really must see. Now. Need some convincing? Here are four excellent reasons you should make this the year you see War Horse on stage…
The recipient of countless awards and nominations, the National Theatre’s acclaimed production of War Horse first made a splash in 2007. Recognised as being one of the best new plays both in London and in New York on its transfer to Broadway four year later, the show has since captured the hearts and minds of audiences right around the world. Bringing theatre-lovers to London for almost eight years, War Horse has proved itself to be one of the West End’s most endearing and enduring shows.
It’s a story 100 years in the making…
Sort of, anyway. We’re not saying it took its fabulous author (and former British Children’s Laureate) Michael Morpurgo that long to pen, but it’s worth remembering that this incredibly moving story is set during the First World War. Over the next few years, there will be a lot reflection on the Great War – the human cost, and how it shaped our history. There are few more poignant and fitting renditions of the conflict on stage or screen, and there’s no better time to catch this must-see war drama.
All too often audiences balk at the idea of going to a ‘family show’ – rest assured, even though the original book was aimed at a younger readership, this stage adaptation will undoubtedly appeal to you, your kids and your parents. It’s just that good. Whether you’re simply awe-struck at the magic of the puppetry or impressed by its remarkable stage innovation, it’s impossible not to love Joey.
This unmissable show closes in March 2016!
World-conquering, record-breaking and much (much) loved though it is, War Horse is set to close on 12th March 2016… like all good things, it must sadly come to an end. Don’t miss your chance to see one of the decade’s most popular plays in London this year. See the show’s closing trailer right here:
