If Roman Abramovich were to bankroll Simon Brett’s hilarious version of Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy ‘The Importance Of Being Earnest’ even his billions could not buy a better cast – or indeed place a better Director than Lucy Bailey at the helm.  Presiding over one of the most celebrated and experienced casts that the West End has seen in decades, she allows each of the master performers the time and space to bring their immense depth of knowledge to the roles, and, equally importantly, to bubble and fizz and create a sparkling chemistry with the other members of the ensemble.  Indeed, if Oscar Wilde’s ghost should make the short walk to the Harold Pinter Theatre from the Café De Paris (his notorious haunt during life) I am sure that he would applaud this thoroughly entertaining production –whilst doubtless ruing the fact that he is unable to collect any royalties!
