A few weeks ago the Superbreak team were invited to the Cedar Court Grand Hotel & Spa, York’s only 5 star hotel, to celebrate the opening of their newly refurbished Ruinart Terrace. It was a gloriously sunny day so after a march across the centre of York after work we couldn’t have been happier to be greeted with a cool glass of champagne when we arrived.
Stepping onto the terrace I was amazed by the size of the open space, dotted with stylish monochrome furniture, as it’s completely hidden from view when walking past the hotel at street level. It was the perfect shady spot to cool down, with a glimpse of the city walls and the Wheel of York completing the scene, as well as the grand architecture of the hotel itself.
We were told that the terrace had previously been a bit of a forgotten space, used mainly for hosting marquees for corporate events. The transformation of the space was really impressive and I think really adds to the hotel’s offering.
After finishing sipping on my champers I was shown around the hotel spa, which is housed below ground level in the hotel’s basement. This soothing hideaway felt like a luxury retreat hidden beneath the city. The spa features a gym, relaxation room, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms and also offer a variety of manicure packages. I think I’ll be heading back on the Cedar Court Grand Luxury Spa Package the next time I feel like treating myself!
The whole evening was really enjoyable and a fabulous introduction to one of York’s finest hotels. If the sun makes a reappearance any time soon I’ll definitely be heading back to the terrace for a cool flute of bubbly.
