Our very own Affinity Marketing Manager, Steve Street visited The O2 twice recently to see two incredible sets of artists perform! Find out what he made of the performances in his great review…
The Canadian rockers Nickelback were back in town last Sunday as part of their “Hits Tour”.
I’ve been lucky enough to see these guys several times, (the friendly rockers as I call them) with their pleasing, catching rock anthems. Lead singer Chad Kroeger has a voice like gravel and belted out favourite tunes Rock Star, Something In Your Mouth, Savin’ Me and the song that put Nickelback on the map back in 2001, How You Remind Me.
If you like your rock music lightly shaken as opposed to head banging then be sure to catch Nickelback next time they hit the road.
Simple Minds & Ultravox
I saw Simple Minds and Ultravox at the O2 Arena on the 30th November. Most people would say I’m seeing these 2 bands about 25 years too late but I couldn’t resist grabbing a couple of tickets to this gig when they released their only London date of 2013.
I have to say I wasn’t disappointed to see Ultravox and lead singer Midge Ure, who played an hours set, finally performing the haunting 80’s hit “Vienna” + many more of their synthpop tunes.
This set things up nicely for us to see Simple Minds for the first time. Like most bands from the 80’s they rely on their BIG hits from the past. This will always go down well with their staunch fans, of which there were many under the O2 roof.
Maybe some of the power has gone in James Kerr’s vocals but musically they are still very much delivering the goods and had the crowd rockin’!
Ultravox and Simple Minds were a great double act and the Scots definitely ruled the o2 on the 30th. Their last song of the night was the iconic “Don’t You (Forget About Me)…..and the majority of the crowd will not.
