Last month, SuperBreak-ers Alex, Donna and Diane were all lucky enough to go and see Take That perform at London’s greatest venue – The O2 Arena. Newly performing as a trio, what would our team think of the new-look band? We asked them all about their O2 experience and, of course, what they’ll be off to see next!
What event did you go to see and why?
Donna: I went to see Take That – I’ve been a fan since I was 15…
Alex: I went only for the benefit of my other half!
Diane: My friend is a serious Take That fan, so was extremely keen to see them! We saw them in Manchester a few years ago and were really looking forward to seeing them again…
What did you think of the performance? Did it live up to expectations?
Diane: With Ella Henderson as the support act, we knew it was going to be a good event, Ella was amazing, note-perfect and a great warm up act!
Donna: Fantastic – even though there are only 3 in the band now they still put on a spectacular show!
Alex: I have to admit that although I am no particular fan of Take That, their show was excellent. They were thoroughly entertaining and everyone had a fantastic time.
Diane: Take That really know how to put on a show, and not just a concert! The stage was alive throughout their performance with additional acts, scenery and colour, the crowd was buzzing, and even with 3 members, they sang old and new songs and really entertained the audience. It was a fantastic show, with everyone singing along and really enjoying the evening. Can’t wait for their next tour!
What did you make of the facilities at The O2?
Alex: The facilities are great. There are loads of fantastic places to eat and drink before the show and the facilities are clean and very modern…
Did you enjoy a meal or drinks out before the event? If so would you recommend the places?
Donna: Yes we ate before in the O2 at the Cabana – a Brazilian restaurant – and the food was great!
Which hotel did you stay in and what did you think of it?
Alex: We stayed in the St Giles Classic in central London, a fantastic location for getting to see all the sights in London, and getting to the O2 is really easy on the tube. The hotel is comfortable with excellent facilities in the hotel.
Diane: I stayed at the Travelodge City Airport Hotel, staff were extremely polite and helpful, location was perfect for the O2, and only a 10 minute walk to the nearest tube, hotel was quiet despite being next to the airport, no noise at all from the airport or the nearby road. Very comfortable night’s sleep. Would definitely stay there again…
How did you get to The O2? How did you find travelling around London?
Alex: Travelling on public transport the O2 is really easy to find. It’s easily accessible on the tube and I liked using the DLR to get to Canary Wharf beforehand. I also went on the Emirates Airline which gives a great view of the docklands area and is good value on the Oyster Card.
Donna: I drove to the O2 and parked up there – it’s a very easy drive from Maidstone where we live.
How does The O2 compare to other venues?
Donna: It’s a brilliant venue. Everything you need is there!
Alex: As it is so modern and so big it is a really good venue to see any shows in. The size of the venue means there is a really good atmosphere when it’s full.
Have any other events caught your eye this year?
Alex: Tom Jones and Van Morrison are playing at Blues Fest – they’d be good to see.
Donna: One Direction! Would love to go and see them…
