SuperBreak’s Aisling was lucky enough to catch Olly Murs at The O2 Arena this month, and really made the most of her time in the capital…
Earlier this month Olly Murs performed four sold out shows at the O2 Arena in London as part of his Never Been Better tour and I was lucky enough to secure tickets to see his fourth and final show!
On the morning of the event I travelled to London with the girls on the train using the Grand Central service from York.
We arrived in London just after noon and headed straight to our hotel, the 4* Aloft London Excel. The hotel was modern, the bedrooms were large and there were a number of great facilities on offer. I hadn’t stayed at this particular hotel before but I would definitely stay again!
We enjoyed a meal that afternoon at The Slug and Lettuce, Canary Wharf before heading back to the hotel to get ready for the night ahead. We used the DLR and tube to get from the hotel to the O2 Arena. The journey didn’t take long and the DLR and tube were easy to use.
We enjoyed a few cocktails at the American Express Invites Lounge before taking our seats in the arena – we recommend that you try a Bramble!
Ella Eyre was the opening act that night. She took to the stage to perform a number of her hits including “If I Go”, “Together” and “Gravity”. Ella’s set was amazing and she really was the perfect act to open for Olly Murs.
After months of counting down it was finally time for the main event! Olly Murs opened his set with performances of “Did You Miss Me” and “Right Place Right Time”. The cheeky chappy brought all of his charm and charisma to the stage for his stellar set which showcased songs from his new album including “Never Been Better” and “Seasons” as well as a number of his older hits including “Heart Skips A Beat”, “Dance With Me Tonight” and “Dear Darlin’”.
The crowd participated in a number of “Olly, Olly, Olly” chants throughout the night and Ella Eyre also came back onto the stage to perform “Up” with Olly which went down a treat. My personal highlight of the night was Olly mash up performance of “Play The Funky Music”, “Le Freak”, “Oops Upside Your Head” and “Uptown Funk”, talk about a way to get a party started!
The overall highlight of the evening though was when Olly introduced a very special guest to join him on stage. Que a lot of screaming and a few tears! The crowd went absolutely crazy as Robbie Williams came out to join Olly for a performance of “Troublemaker”.
Olly closed his amazing set with a performance of his hits “Wrapped Up” and “Treasure”. A great night was had by all and it’s great to see how far Olly Murs has come since being the runner up on 2009’s X Factor!
