Superbreak Sales Advisor, Cara Fowler visited The O2 Arena last month to see singing sensation Jessie J! Here’s her review of the whole experience…
I’ve just stayed one night at the Ibis Styles Hotel at Custom House on 29th October 2013 with my 13 year daughter, as we were hosting Jessie J that evening.
The hotel was very easy to get to on the underground, (though changing on the DLR train at Westferry to be sure to be on the right line going in the direction of Becton was the only initial issue on arrival). From Custom House station you can see the Ibis Styles Hotel from the bridge, this was a great relief, bearing in mind the lateness of our exit would be from the O2 later. The staff at check-in were very friendly and welcoming and the hotel reception bright and airy and free cash point available too.
Our accommodation was reasonably sized for the price, very clean and fresh with an adequatly sized bathroom, very similar to those found in the P&O cruises. Plenty of light and complimentary water in the room, which surprised me. We simply had to try out the attached pub to the Ibis Styles of course and found it very relaxing and comfortable, deciding to return for our tea before venturing out to the O2.
It turned out to be a great decision, easting at the hotel, although we only had a sharing platter and drinks, it was very well priced and would have been probably double the price and twice the wait or more to be served at the O2. This then gave us plenty or time to arrive at the O2, without the added panic of finding a table and getting served before the 6.30 entrance time.
Getting to the O2 from Custom House was extremly easy, just 2 stops to Canning Town on the DLR, then one stop on the Jubilee Line, accross the water to Greenwich and the O2. As we arrived in good time, we were able to take advantage and relax in the lovely surroundings of the VIP Bar at the O2, though as expected the bar prices were very high, we then made our way up to the VIP Suite, ready to welcome our guests for Jessie J and make everyone relaxed and comfortable.
I was really excited that Lawson was one of the 2 supporting acts for Jessie J and their mini concert got everyone in good spirits for Jessie J, who also did not disappoint. Everyone had a great time, all up singing and dancing. My daughter even made herself useful, helping to escort a younger girl to go find popcorn, without her Mum taking her as she knows her way around to levels of the O2 confidently enough to go unaided.
I would certainly recommend The Ibis Styles to anyone looking for a relaxed, comfortable stay with convenience to the O2, as the hotel was extremely good value for money and a reasonable breakfast in the morning, although a little chaotic at peak times.
