For fans like Superbreak’s Emma Robinson, seeing Beyoncé live at the London O2 Arena is an opportunity not to be missed. Read on to find out what Emma made of the Mrs Carter World Tour 2014…
1. What event did you go to see and why?
I went to see my all time favourite singer Beyoncé on her Mrs Carter World Tour.
2. What did you think of the performance? Did it live up to expectations?
At 9pm on Tuesday 4th March, the lights of the London O2 Arena went down and the sound of the screams went up, Beyoncé had arrived! With an all female band, energetic dancers, she started the show with ‘Run The World’ which had everybody up on their feet dancing and singing. From there on she performed a range of songs from her new album ‘Beyoncé’, along with her classics such as ‘Crazy In Love’, ‘Halo’, and my all time favourite song ‘Love On Top’. A surprise visit from Jay Z made the crowd erupt for her song ‘Drunk In Love’; I have never heard anything like it! The dance moves were so energetic, I was in awe of how she manages to sing so beautifully and dance at the same time.
I had high expectations but she surpassed all of them, her performance was out of this world! I really don’t think anyone could beat Beyoncé performance wise.
3. Was this your first visit to The O2? What did you make of the facilities?
This was my first visit to the O2 Arena in London and I couldn’t believe how big the Superbreak Suite was. It was great to have our own sofa area and bar where customers could sit back and relax before enjoying the concert. We had 2 O2 staff members who welcomed customers, took coats and made drinks. It was a relaxed environment to be in.
4. Did you enjoy a meal or drinks out before the event? If so would you recommend the places?
We went for a cocktail at TGI Friday’s at the O2 Arena. I would recommend arriving earlier than when the doors open for the concert as it was extremely busy and in some of the places people were queuing out of the door.
5. Which hotel did you stay in and what did you think of it? How far was the distance to The O2?
As we had to get up for an early train we stayed close to Kings Cross Station at Travelodge Kings Cross Royal Scott. It was basic, but the rooms were clean, and just what we needed for our stopover in London. It was only a 15 minute walk to Kings Cross Tube Station and then 1 change on the tube, it didn’t take long.
6. How did you get to The O2? How did you find travelling around London?
We got the tube from Kings Cross to the O2, which only took us 30 minutes so we had plenty of time to explore the venue. I have never been to the O2 Arena in London before, but I found it easy to get to with just one change.
7. How does The O2 compare to other venues?
The London O2 Arena is absolutely huge, it has another smaller venue inside, plenty of bars and restaurants and a cinema. It’s like a town in itself!
8. Have any other events caught your eye this year?
The Russell Howard and Miranda Hart comedy shows look brilliant.
