SuperBreak’s Martin had the dubious honour of seeing global rap superstar 50 Cent at The O2 Arena, taking his grandson to see the ultra-cool show at London’s greatest venue. The office is unanimous, he must be the World’s Best Grandad! Read his take on the gig right here:
“I was only ‘kind of’ looking forward to 50 Cent at The O2, as hip-hop and rap are not exactly my type of music. But my grandson who, at 15, loves this stuff begged me to take him and after much nagging I eventually agreed.
We stayed at the Ibis Styles London Excel, the room was clean and comfortable, and the ‘all you can eat’ breakfast buffet did the job! The hotel is opposite Custom House DLR station and very handy for The O2, especially if – like we did – you use the new cable car from Royal Victoria station which is one stop away from Custom House, and ‘fly’ directly to The O2.
The gig started at 6:30pm with DJ Ace, Riz and Fabolous preceding 50 Cent and G-Unit which started at 9:00pm. The O2 was packed and the atmosphere amazing, it’s just a pity that the music – which was very loud and shouty – went completely over my head! My grandson – who knew all the lyrics (even the rude ones) – loved every minute and afterwards exclaimed afterwards that this was ‘sick’, which apparently means very good!
The following morning, our short break was topped off by a brief tour of the City – the DLR takes you directly from Custom House to Tower Gateway – before heading off to Kings Cross and returning home. All in all, a short but very enjoyable SuperBreak!”
