Superbreak’s CRM Executive, Graeme Smith visited The O2 last week for a night of exciting darts action from some of the best players in the world! Here’s what he made of the experience…

For those who think darts is dull, boring and played by fat and drunk men down your local pub then you would be truly mistaken! The PDC McCoy’s Premier League Darts is fast becoming one of the UK’s most exciting and watchable sports played at the biggest arenas around the country with the finale at the O2 in London where I had the pleasure of attending courtesy of Superbreak.

The atmosphere in the O2 arena crowd would match or even better that of a top football match with music, chanting and a vast array of fancy dress costumes to be seen in the crowd. Everything from somebody dressed up as ‘Bully’ from the popular 90’s TV show Bullseye, the famous computer game characters Mario and Luigi to four guys dressed up imitating the Cool Runnings bobsleigh team. The event isn’t often a sober affair either with plenty of larger being drunk!

As for the darts itself, it is played by big characters with unbelievable talent. The finale is played by the top 4 players from the Premier League season that battle out for the championship trophy. After 2 exciting semi-finals the final showpiece was against arguably the best 2 players in the division, Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor and ‘Mighty’ Mike Van Gerwen. The final was such a close contest and at one stage the two couldn’t be separated at 7 legs each with the first person to 10 legs winning. However, the consistently impressive Dutch master, Van Gerwen won the final leg with a 132 bullseye finish which made the crowd go wild to the music of Chase the Sun by Planet Funk.

If you are a sports mad person or just like some good banter and a few pints of beer and never been to watch the PDC Darts before, I would truly recommend it that you try it one day. As for the O2, what an amazing venue and fitting for any major live sport or music event. I’m sure I will be back again!!
