SuperBreak’s Natalie was expecting a lot of laughs when she went to see Lee Evans at The O2 Arena last week. Find out if that’s what she got in her latest event review…
1. What event did you go to see and why?
I went to The O2 to see Lee Evans with my friend Sarah. We wanted to go see this as we’d both seen his performances on TV and DVD, and thought he would be amazing live.
2. What did you think of the performance? Did it live up to expectations?
I’ve actually seen him live at Sheffield before in a much smaller venue than The O2, so I thought it would be a good idea to see him at in this arena too. He didn’t fail to disappoint and had the audience laughing from start to finish – although I had forgotten how much of a potty mouth he actually was and hell, that man sweats! He messed up one of his lines half way through and had to dig himself out of a hole and did this brilliantly, making a joke at his own expense, proving how even under pressure he can keep the performance going.
3. Was this your first visit to The O2? What did you make of the facilities?
I have been to The O2 on numerous occasions. I love London and love this arena. The facilities are great, everything you would expect for a great night out including pre-show facilities and the stage/arena itself.
4. Did you enjoy a meal or drinks out before the event? If so would you recommend the places?
We ate at the restaurant at the Aloft Hotel “Feede” which I would definitely recommend. It has a nice setting and a lovely atmosphere. The food was great; I had the steak and chips which were cooked to perfection and set us nicely for the night ahead.
5. Which hotel did you stay in and what did you think of it? How far was the distance to The O2?
This was my second time staying at the Aloft Hotel, and I would recommend it as a nice hotel, conveniently situated for events at The O2. Last time I was here it only included continental breakfast (classed as a grab ‘n’ go, where you chose a selection of five items), so this time I was very much looking forward to the full English on offer, which again was in the restaurant below the hotel. After a very peaceful nights sleep, it was time to sample the full English I had been waiting for and wow, it did not disappoint (buffet style)!
6. How did you get to The O2? How did you find travelling around London?
We used the DLR to get to The O2, which was very easy as it is only 3 stops to Canning Town, then onto the Jubilee Line to North Greenwich for The O2. The total time from hotel to The O2 was approximately 12-15 minutes.
7. How does The O2 compare to other venues?
Compared to other venues I have been to, The O2 is far larger and advanced in design and layout. Because of the size and the bigger crowds, it improves the atmosphere.
8. Have any other events caught your eye this year?
I will be returning to The O2 in London soon to see Lady Gaga and Michael Buble, although you never know, there may be a few more before the end of the year. I am always eager to see a lot of events and sample the atmosphere.
